Are you missing one or more teeth? Are the gaps in your smile making things like chewing and speaking difficult? To restore the beauty and functionality of your smile, our dentist may recommend a dental bridge.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge consists of two crowns with a replacement tooth attached in between. The two crowns will be attached to the teeth on either side of the missing tooth, which are called the abutment teeth.
How is a dental bridge placed?
After administering anesthetic, Dr. Jeffery Carver will shape the enamel of the abutment teeth to allow room for the dental bridge. Then impressions will be taken of the missing tooth and the surrounding teeth. These impressions will allow your dental bridge to be made specifically for your smile. Once your dental bridge is ready, our dentist will check the fit and color and make any needed adjustments. Then the bridge will be permanently cemented in place.
How do I care for a dental bridge?
If cared for well, your new dental bridge can last for 10 years or more before being replaced. To properly care for your dental bridge, simply practice consistent, efficient oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss once a day and visit our office at least twice a year for cleanings and exams. During these appointments, we can examine the status of your dental bridge.
